Compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide, depending on clinical
fit and availability.

Yes—semaglutide and tirzepatide are FDA-approved for weight management in patients who meet specific clinical criteria. At Alpenglow Medical, we use customized compounded versions under careful medical supervision.

Both are GLP-1–based medications, but tirzepatide also mimics a second hormone (GIP), which may enhance appetite suppression and weight loss. The right option depends on your individual health history and how your body responds.

A 503A pharmacy is a licensed compounding pharmacy that makes custom medications specifically for individual patients based on a prescription. These pharmacies use FDA-approved ingredients and follow strict safety and quality standards. At Alpenglow Medical, we work only with 503A pharmacies to ensure your GLP-1 medication is tailored to you—and made with the highest level of care.

GLP-1 medications are safe for many people, but they’re not appropriate for everyone. You may not be a candidate if you:

  • Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2 (multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2)
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding, or planning on becoming pregnant
  • Have a history of pancreatitis
  • Have severe kidney (renal) disease or are on dialysis
  • Have gastroparesis, severe GERD, history of bowel obstruction, severe inflammatory bowel disease
  • Are allergic to any component of the medication

At Alpenglow Medical Weight Loss, we take a careful, personalized approach—reviewing your full medical history to determine whether GLP-1 therapy is safe and appropriate for you.

Starting with smaller doses (microdosing) helps your body ease into treatment. This approach minimizes side effects like nausea and fatigue, while still delivering effective metabolic benefits. We adjust your dosing based on your tolerance and progress—not a one-size-fits-all protocol.

Many patients begin noticing appetite changes within 1–3 weeks. Weight loss results typically become visible after the first month and continue steadily with consistency and regular monitoring.

No strict diet is required, but healthy eating and movement can enhance your results.

Yes. Some people experience side effects when starting GLP-1 medications, especially at higher doses. The most common include:

  • Nausea
  • Bloating or gas
  • Constipation or diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Decreased appetite (which is often intended)

These symptoms are usually mild and temporary, especially when treatment is started at a low dose and gradually increased.

Rare but serious side effects may include:

  • Worsening of diabetic retinopathy (in those with preexisting eye disease)
  • Pancreatitis
  • Gallbladder issues
  • Worsen kidney diseases

Obesity is a chronic medical condition — similar to high blood pressure or high cholesterol. While some individuals may eventually transition off medication, many benefit from longer-term treatment to maintain results.

If medication is stopped, weight regain is possible, especially without sustained lifestyle changes. That’s why we focus on building sustainable nutrition habits, adequate protein intake, and ongoing monitoring to support long-term success — whether on or off medication.

Yes, we do require basic lab work. This helps us safely tailor your treatment and monitor for any underlying conditions that could affect your response. If you’ve had recent labs done, we may be able to use those. Depending on your length of GLP-1 therapy, repeat labs will possibly be required.

It depends on your goals, progress, and how your body responds. Some people use GLP-1s for a few months to kickstart weight loss and build healthier habits. Others stay on them longer—for continued support and maintenance. At Alpenglow Medical Weight Loss, we take a personalized approach, checking in regularly to decide what’s right for you.

Because our services involve personalized medical care, provider time, and custom-prescribed medications, we do not offer refunds once treatment has begun. If you need to cancel an appointment or pause care, please refer to our cancellation and rescheduling policy.
